An unusual day at church

Anyone who knows Claire and Brian will understand when I say that they both have a unique outlook on life. We expected a memorable occasion and they did not let us down.

The Church Service, conducted by the most friendly and cheerful vicar I have ever encountered, Rick Gates, was informal and everyone in the congregation felt part of the occasion.

From the unusual, but apt, music selection, to the lovely readings it was truly a unique occasion.

The first reading by Georgia Mackay was lively and fitting yet well suited to a child's reading, words I believe were written by Brian for the occasion.

Sarah Barrett, the bride's sister, sang a lovely rendition of Amazed - no one is quite sure where her singing talent came from apparently, but she excelled in front of a daunting audience of family and friends. .

The final reading by Heidi Kristiansen, Claire's long time friend who had flown in from Norway, was truly beautiful, being read first in Norwegian, before being repeated in English.

The two songs where again typical of Brian and Claire - no sign of traditional hymns. Firstly everyone joined in with a cheerful rendition of Lean on Me, with the final song being an upbeat version of Rockin' around the Christmas Tree.

Everyone joined in and had a fantastic time at the church.

The poem below was read by Georgia in superb style:

For this, our wonderful green land,
For the calm blue sea, and crystals of golden sand,
For early morning mist, for a warm winter sun,
For honey, for chocolate, and for the iced cream bun,
For scones, clotted cream, jam and a nice cup of tea,
For all those things which go to make up me.

For all those times when I can’t help but laugh,
For a warm soft towel after a bubble bath,
For Mr Milne, For Tigger, For Pooh,
For all of the stories which stick with you,
For Pluto, For Goofy, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse,
And don’t forget, Bill and Ben, Fingerbobs, Hector’s House.

For my teddy bear, who hugs me tight,
When I feel sad, or I’m scared at night,
For my family who pick me up when I fall,
For my friends, who help me walk tall,
Everybody who cares, who keep my feet on the ground,
And for all of your love, which I feel all around.

For all these things, and many more,
I will bow to you, and drop to one knee
Offer the love in my heart as thanks for,
Your love and being a best friend to me.
